Storing Cannabis So It Stays Fresh

You picked something you love — now keep it that way. Cannabis is a plant product, and like coffee beans or good tea, it fades if you store it carelessly. A few easy habits protect the flavor, aroma, and potency you paid for.
The four things to avoid
Freshness comes down to controlling the environment. The main enemies are simple:
- Light — UV rays break down potency over time
- Heat — warmth dries out flower and degrades quality
- Air — too much oxygen speeds up staleness
- Humidity swings — too dry crumbles, too damp risks mold
The simple solution
An airtight glass jar, kept in a cool, dark cabinet, solves most of these at once. Amber or opaque glass is even better because it blocks light. Skip the freezer — the temperature swings and moisture can do more harm than good.
A few extra touches
- Add a two-way humidity pack to hold the ideal moisture level
- Keep different strains in separate jars to preserve their aromas
- Store jars away from the stove, windows, and heating vents
- Label the date so you know how long it's been open
How long does it last?
Stored well, flower stays enjoyable for six months to a year. Stored poorly, it can lose its spark in weeks. A little care goes a long way — and keeps every session as good as the first.
